the end is near…

Prize to anyone who can tell me what these are, where they are from and why on earth I have them posted on my blog! (Contest closes tomorrow morning…)

In unrelated news, only a week of classes left. I have 1 paper left to write and then down to exams (2 next week and 3 spread out over the exam period). Currently, I am procrastinating in the writing of my paper, something I have become an expert at. The problem is, I don’t know where to start.
Anyway, for those of you in town, Ring Out tomorrow night is a lot of a lot of things, but perhaps the most important is we will be sharing about our upcoming trip to China. That means you can come and find out all you’ve ever wanted to know about our trip and more… even ask questions. And you would also get to see me, but that is besides the point!

and Home again

The weekend in Vancouver was a great sucess. I have now met all of the team except one member from Toronto. I think we have a great team and it was lots of fun to hang out all weekend, although tiring at times. I also got to hang out with Anna who I don’t talk to nearly enough and see Nanc who I don’t see much either .

The days are counting down until I am done school! It is hard to believe that that day is finally coming. I had a presentation last night for my seminar and that seemed to go well. We got our paper back (the one we wrote in 2 marathon sessions over 2 days) and he said it was “Great!” (he told us that just before the presentation, so that was a big encouragement). Now I don’t have to think about breast self examination and mammography again (at least until I’m 40, but thats a whole other story)… Instead, I get to think about art history. My last paper of my undergrad career is art history and is due on Friday. I have never written an art history paper before. I keep hearing things about images from people and am hoping I don’t need copious amounts of pictures because I have no idea where I will get them from. In fact, I don’t even really know how to research for art history, but that is beside the point. I have 3 articles… I usually have 2 pages worth of sources for a paper this big, but we’ll make something work.

Quote of the Day

On a talkshow on tv (I won’t admit to which one because that would have to mean I was watching it…): “I’ve been to every continent in the world except Australia and Alaska.”
Newsflash: Alaska is in North America, so I guess thats one less continent to worry about.

KT Tunstall

Pretty snazzy y’all. Make sure your sound is on (unless you are in a place where you shouldn’t have it on, in which case, make sure it is off becuase the video is automatic play).

Copywrited music

I bought a new cd the other day. A fantastic cd in fact, by a talented UK musician. (Check out her video (left side) – she does all the music herself!).
But my beef begins when I tried to put it on my iPod (which is miraculously working again), I couldn’t. The music is under the “copy control” thing and they have no agreement with Apple, so I am unable to listen to it on my iPod. Windows Media. Fine. iTunes. Nope. So if I want to listen to this music at all outside of the house, I have to either buy the music off of iTunes music store or resurrect my discman.
While I am all for artists getting fair compensation for their music and not copying it and all that (I buy way too many albums annually to not be for. I could save lots of money if I just ripped it off of other people), I think this is a little too much. Their “content protection” is preventing me from listening to music I have bought fair and square with no intention of copying to give away.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

In the spirit of today, I am writing in green. I even dressed in green today… not that it is much of a challenge for me to find green in my wardrobe. Tonight IVCF has teamed up with the Navigators and we are having a joint event in Vertigo about U2, St. Patrick, and things Irish. Ought to be good. Really, anything with U2 is bound to be good.
It is amazing how having done absolutely nothing for the past week or so (the result of insane numbers of papers and exams in a small period of time) has left me with absolutely nothing to write/rant about. I could expond on the benefits of breast self-examination and mammography (health psyc – don’t ask) or on whether empathy is an essential aspect of interpersonal communication… however my guess is that is of minimal interest to the general public (heck, its not even that interesting to me). If you’re really lucky, you can hear all about the St Sylvester cycle at Quattro Coronati, Rome in another week or so… that is going to be my latest area of expertise once the paper is completed. Other than that, me talking about having nothing to talk about will have to suffice.
Happy St Patrick’s day…

Be afraid, be very afraid…

Thats right… and we saw them all at the Bug Zoo last night. Happy Birthday Robyn!!!
For your viewing pleasure:

“Robyn, meet stick bug. Stick bug, meet Robyn!”
“Whatever this thing is, I’m not sure why it is on my hand”

“Ummm, so I’m smiling cause I think that’s what you do when they are taking your picture, but I have a stinkin’ big bug on my hand right now, so I’m not really sure what to do”
“Okay, so its a tarantula… if I close my eyes maybe it can’t see me either”

“Okay, you take it back now please”

And now we are sitting, waiting for Robyn to finish looking at all of the chocolate bugs…

I survived

Well, here it is, Monday evening and the fact that I am writing this proves that I have survived the last 10 days or so. Less than a month until the end of classes and round about 6 weeks until I finish my last exam! Here we go!
